This is because you use cheap and or old ceramic that has a lot of micro fissures that fill with water and that water is heated up by the microwave. Ceramic itself is not affected by microwave and would stay cool.

Ceramics used in household has usually low thermal conductivity and therefore store heat better. They take longer to cool down in comparison to for example metals with high thermal conductivity. This is why when you cook with a metal spoon and take it out it will be hot only for a few seconds, while ceramic plate will be hot for a while. And this is also the reason why the plate appears so hot out of microwave, since it heats up really fast but it can't cool down that fast by itself.

The truth? There is a canon built in sideways. Tesla coils and stuff. After a certain usage period, this canon loose the precision and the microwaves get more dispersed. The ceramic layer inside absorbs more and more the microwaves so only the edges get heated. After my old one died, my little son disassemble it. A friend, who knows this shit, explained it. The new one heats all. But, for how long?

Are you using a ceramic or glass plate? Then you’re using the microwave wrong. It’s a little known fact that for proper heating, you should only use aluminum foil as a plate or an actual metal plate. The metal is more resistant to heat so the small waves (hence the name microwave)of heat pass over the food, more is absorbed in the food rather than being wasted on the plate.

If you use shitty quality plates, they are like a foam. Filled with tiny bubbles (Less material needed) and that air is warming and so whole plate. (more precise that humidity of that air)

Microwaves are horrible ...should probably not use them. But if you for some reason choose this lower standard of living, most of the answer is in the comments, but they left out a few things. Probably your food was in the fridge, and has more water content, etc. than the plate, so it has higher heat capacity. So it only seems like it got less heat, while really it just takes more heat to be higher temperature than the already room temperature plate.

Your food at least has some water in there and microwave oven half wavelength is 6,3 cm. That is the distance between the heat point, there is no such thing is dead spot.

1) heat your food slower so it has time to dissipate some of the heat inwards. 2) cover the food so the moist travels around the plate. 3) microwaves heat water. everything else heats by transfer. 4) not even sure what the "high" setting on the microwave is for, it just ruins anything.
